Lifelines contributes to the development of the Volunteering Action Plan

Lifelines contributes to the development of the Volunteering Action Plan which aims to create a Scotland where everyone can volunteer, more often, and throughout their lives.

“The contribution of volunteers in the recent past has been exceptional; we owe them a debt of gratitude for all that they have done and continue to do.”
Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government

The Volunteering Action Plan was developed to create a Scotland where everyone can volunteer, more often, and throughout their lives. The Plan directly supports the National Performance Framework. The development of the Plan involved an intense co-produced effort, with a number of working groups focused on key aspects of volunteering. This successful engagement model benefited from the knowledge, expertise and direct support that we were able to input.

The digital badge was awarded to Lifelines’ Steve Penny, in recognition of participation within the development of the Volunteering Action Plan, as part of the wider work towards Volunteering for All. The Volunteering Action Plan invited individuals, groups and organisations to work together through a set of focused activities to learn more about volunteering, to reflect on current thinking about volunteering and its place within Scotland and to help reshape the future for volunteering so that all volunteers have a positive experience.

As a participant we supported the creation of the Volunteering Action Plan by:

  • Freely sharing our knowledge, skills and expertise
  • Entering discussions with others to identify the key issues and what really matters to the development of the plan and volunteering
  • Suggesting and contributing to the creation of the next steps to further enhance the volunteering conversation
  • Embracing an informing learning culture
  • Supporting the wider understanding of the impact of volunteering.
